Pagosa Springs was named by the Utes who called the hot springs "Pagosah," or "healing waters." This little town, surrounded on three sides by the San Juan National Forest, is a good place to get away from it all. Explore the mystery of the only mountain home of the Anasazi at nearby Chimney Rock Ruins </nationalparks/chimneyrock.html> where these ancient farmers lived some 1,000 years ago. The twin pinnacles were once a scared shrine to the "Ancient Ones". Later, the unusual formations were a landmark for prospectors, missionaries and conquistadors who settled this rugged country. While clambering among the ruins, keep an eye out for the endangered peregrine falcon which nests here. Enjoy the town's hot springs, considered to be the hottest in the world. Windsurf, water-ski and sail on Navajo Lake, which extends southward 35 miles into New Mexico. The Weminuche and South San Juan wilderness areas' untouched beauty are only accessible on foot or horseback. The nearby Echo Lake Park and Williams Lake are stocked with rainbow and cutthroat trout, large-mouth bass and yellow perch. Other nearby places to go include hiking to Treasure Falls, prospecting on Treasure Mountain, fishing in Williams Creek and visiting the local museums. Good fly-fishing in the areas mountain streams. Nearby Wolf Creek Ski Area gets "The most snow in Colorado." Let the land of healing waters soothe you and the breath-taking wilderness inspire you.

ASPEN ACRES

Welcome to Aspen Acres Campground, located alongside of the 103 mile Colorado Frontier Pathway and Scenic Byway. The Byway stretches through the beauty of South Central Colorado and the San Isabel National Forest. We are located three miles above Lake San Isabel, a 40 acre stocked lake tucked in the mountains. Our altitude is 9200 ft, which make summer high temperatures average in the 70's, and nighttime lows dip into the 50's, great for sleeping.

Our R.V. sites are all full hook ups (no 50 amp), and stretch around the campground, leaving many options for types of sites, such as farther away tucked up into the mountain, or down closer to our large rec hall and shower house area. Our cabins are also spread across the campground; some nestled privately in the woods. Besides the rec hall and game room, we have two open pavilions with cooking grills on the campground. Since we border the National Forest, our campfire policy complies with the Forest Service, meaning we allow campfires when they do. We have a shower house and laundry room, which we pride ourselves on in its cleanliness. A restaurant and store can be found three miles down the road by the lake.

Lake Isabel
Bordering the San Isabel National Forest leaves plenty of things open for the adventurous to do. Trails stretch throughout the Forest, leading to many beautiful peaks and mountain valleys. Whether on foot, mountain bike, horse, or motorcycle, the trails offer much for many. You may even see a black bear rumbling along, or some of the many other animals that live in the mountains. But then again for those who would rather relax on their vacations, the quiet atmosphere of the mountains and cool breezes make for lawn chair relaxing. We look forward to seeing you.
